How to Get a Pokémon Player ID Number
Sign up for a Pokémon Player ID number and start participating in Fair Game's Pokémon Trading Card Game events!
Fair Game hosts a number of Pokémon Trading Card Game events in store. Our regular Saturday casual League and our periodic prerelease events are great for players who are looking to learn and explore the trading card game. (They are especially great for kids!)
In order to participate in any of these events, players will need a Pokémon Player ID number. This is a 7-digit number you can obtain by signing up for an account on the official Pokémon website.
While signing up is a free, quick, and relatively painless process, there can be a few counterintuitive steps. This guide is designed to guide you through the sign-up process. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out to us at (630)963-0640 or email@example.com and we will be more than happy to provide additional assistance.
STEP 1: CREATE AN ACCOUNT
To create an account, navigate to https://www.pokemon.com/us. Then, click on the "Join" button on the menu at the left side of the screen. If you are signing up with a mobile device, you will click on the white player silhouette on the right side of the screen to access the registration screen.
The registration menu will ask you for some typical information, including the email address you would like to use for the account, your name, and other details.
In the case that you already have an account (if you play Pokémon Go, the Pokémon video games, or the online Pokémon Trading Card Game, you might have previously registered!) you can skip registration and simply log in with the information you signed up with initially.
IF YOU ARE SIGNING UP A CHILD WHO IS UNDER THE AGE OF 13, A PARENT/GUARDIAN WILL NEED TO SIGN UP FOR AN ACCOUNT UNDER THEIR OWN NAME AND ADD THEIR CHILD AFTERWARDS. For this reason, it is very important that parents use their own birth date when they sign up initially. Players ages 13 and over will use their own birth date and sign up for an independent account.
After you have filled out this information, you will need to verify your email address before you continue. The email verification is usually sent out very quickly, but you can always get it re-sent if you don't see it pop up in your inbox.
STEP 2: CREATE YOUR CHILD'S ACCOUNT
This step is only necessary if you need to create an account for your child who is under the age of 13. Log in to your Pokémon account and select the "Add a Child" button from the menu on the left side of the screen. (If you are using a mobile device, you can find this menu by selecting the same silhouette icon we used before).
The following screen will ask you for additional identification for security purposes. Once you have entered those details, you will be able to create an account for your child using a similar process to that we followed in step 1.
Some parents ask whether it is possible that their child can use the parent's ID number and account for entering events. Because players are divided into different age brackets for competitive and casual events, it is important that young players use an ID number derived from their own account.
STEP 3: GENERATE AN ID NUMBER
We're almost done! The last step is to generate the Pokémon Player ID number.
Select "Play! Pokémon Settings" from the same menu we used in Step 2. If you are generating an ID number for a child, make sure to select the child's name from this menu first so that you are seeing and editing their account information.
Once you are on the Play! Pokémon Settings screen, scroll down to the "Play! Pokémon Account" section and select "Please assign me a new Player ID number" from the provided options. Agree to the Terms of Service and then click the green "Submit" button at the bottom of the page.
When everything reloads, you should see the 7-digit ID number that has been generated for your account. Record the number and use it whenever you sign up for a Pokémon event at Fair Game! (We recommend saving the number as a contact in your phone).
