Clever is a very addictive and thinky roll-and-write game! In a set amount of rounds, each player takes turns being the active player. The active player rolls the dice up to three times, selecting a die to score on their player sheet—in the section matching the die's color. The twist comes in the "silver platter"—any dice lower than the value of the selected die go onto the platter, as well as all other unselected dice after the third roll selection. When the active player is done, all other (inactive) players must select a die from the silver platter to score on their sheets! Throughout the game, players can earn—moreover, chain—bonuses that can allow them to reroll dice, score additional dice, or fill or cross out boxes in other sections. Earning foxheads are also important, as each are worth equal to your lowest scoring section!
Every game of Clever is puzzling fun that plays differently for each player count. 2-4 players to score with your best dice while yielding not-so-nice dice to the silver platter for your opponents. In solo mode, you take turns being the active player and inactive player to achieve the best score possible. While there still is the luck of the dice roll, there is more strategy involved compared to simpler roll and write games like Qwixx, Catan Dice and Harvest Dice. Overall, Clever may appeal more to the heavier gamers, but it is DEFINITELY worth checking out. :)
