Bring Black Widow Home with our Favorite Marvel Games

After over a year of time away from theaters, folks are once again enjoying the blockbuster experience and going to the movies! Black Widow releases this weekend, and what better way to compliment that then to bring home a board game for the family that makes everyone feel like a hero? Here's a quick list of our favorite Marvel games you are sure to love!

Marvel Codenames

2, 4+ Players | Ages 10+ | 15-30 min

This is exactly what you would think it is: our favorite Marvel characters combined with the outstanding party game that is Codenames! Players divide into teams and take turns being a clue-giver for a round. Lay out 25 pictures representing people and places in the Marvel universe on the table. The clue-giver for each team then tries to get their teammates to guess specific pictures while avoiding the opposing team's pictures. Clues must be a single word followed by a number - the number of pictures to which that clue applies. For example, if you're trying to get your team to guess both Hulk and Thanos, you might say "Muscles 2". The first team to have all their pictures guessed wins! While there is a 2-player variant, we think this game is best with at least 4, and can go up to 10 or even 12 pretty comfortably.

Infinity Gauntlet: A Love Letter Game

2-6 Players | Ages 8+ | 15 min

While a few games on this list simply add the Marvel theme to an existing game, Infinity Gauntlet takes the mechanics of the original Love Letter and turns it into a 1-vs-many epic experience! One player takes on the role of Thanos while the others deploy iconic heroes to try to thwart him. Heroes have a 1-card hand but combine their knowledge to coordinate against Thanos, who draws from his own deck of minions and powerful Infinity Stones. The heroes will have to use their abilities in strategic combinations to knock his health down to zero before he can do the same to them—or find all six Infinity Stones and win with a snap of his fingers. Who will prevail in this battle for the universe?

Marvel Villainous: Infinite Power

2-4 Players | Ages 12+ | 40-80 Minutes

Villains are what allow Heroes to save the world, and sometimes its more fun to be bad! In Marvel Villainous, each player takes on the role of a mastermind like Ultron, Taskmaster, or Thanos trying to execute their nefarious schemes. Each villain has their own goals and plays differently. It's a race to the finish, so you'll be throwing hurdles in the way of your opponents by drawing cards from the Fate Deck. For example, you may send your minions after the Infinity Stones as Thanos while luring Captain America out to fight your rivals. Marvel Villainous is a great strategy game that really sings at 3 or more players.

5-Minute Marvel

2-5 Players | Ages 6+ | 5 min

Based off of the game 5-Minute Dungeon, this is one of our best sellers! In 5-Minute Marvel, players work together to hack through waves of henchmen before getting to the final Super Villain. There are 6 villains that you're encouraged to play through in order, each progressively more challenging than the last. Once each player has chosen a hero to play as, the five minute timer starts and we're off to the races! Players match the cards in their hands to the symbols on the baddies to defeat them, and so much coordinate who is contributing what to each foe. If the players can keep cool under pressure and defeat the super villain before the timer runs out, the players win! This is a great one for all ages and is a Fair Game Favorite.

Smash Up! Marvel

2-4 Players | Ages 10+ | 60 min

What if I told you that you could play as not one but TWO of the characters from the Marvel universe at the same time?? Like the ultra-popular Smash Up series it is based on, players in Smash Up! Marvel choose two decks of cards based around a faction, such as Hydra or the Avengers, and shuffles them together. Use the powers found in your unique combination of decks to claim locations and earn points. The player with the most points wins!

Marvel Champions

1-4 Players | Ages 14+ | 60-120 min

The ultimate experience in teaming up as super heroes, Marvel Champions is a card game where players work together to defeat a nemesis before their schemes come to fruition. Each player brings a customized deck of cards to the table to represent their superhero's abilities and equipment. Much like other cooperative board games, the villain acts after each player has had a turn, handing out setbacks and dealing damage to slow down the heroes. Additional expansions increase the number of available heroes to play and the cards to include in your decks, and each expansion is a playable deck right out of the box. You can even get the Black Widow expansion and play as Natasha herself!

This article is getting quite long, so I'll leave you with a few other Marvel titles that we carry:

- Crisis Protocol is a fast-paced miniatures game where players pit teams of iconic heroes against each other

- Marvel Splendor is an exciting take on the modern classic Splendor

- Marvel United is a cooperative game where each hero gets a unique set of abilities, cards, and an adorable miniature

Whether you're saving the world as a team or bending it to your will, you're going to have a blast with these fantastic Marvel titles!
